Can You Lower Your Property Taxes by Susie Hsu & Kevin Walsh

Tip #1 – Make a trip to the assessment office.

This office contains a wealth of knowledge that we don’t take enough advantage of. Get as much information about your property in Newton Massachusetts as you can. Make sure that everything that is recorded in that office is true to the best of your knowledge. If it is not, then you definitely want to rectify that. Whatever is not correct, you want to be able to show proof via pictures, photos or even measurements that what is recorded is incorrect and then what it should be.

Tip #2 – Assess property in your neighborhood

Remember that the assessment office is a wealth of knowledge. When you go to the office, get some values of other properties in your Newton Massachusetts. See where your house stands versus other properties in the area. Determine whether your assessed value is low or high or right where it should be.

Tip #3 – Determine property values in Newton Massachusetts

Determine your property value. Contact your real estate agent Susie Hsu & Kevin Walsh at 617-332-3420 to help you determine what your property is worth. This is information that you can use if you appeal the amount of property taxes that you are paying.

Tip #4 – Live in a different area

This might not be a viable option, but you might consider living somewhere else where the taxes are not so high. This may mean that all you have to do is to move to the other side of town, or move to the outskirts of where you are currently living. Again, this is just something to consider.
